The Story of LIMKY: A Revolution for Moms

In my family I had no examples of breastfeeding.

Instinctively I could have chosen the bottle because that's all I knew.

My name is Doriane, I am the founder of LIMKY and I am the mother of 3 children whom I breastfed.

My story began in a small maternity ward, where I experienced moments both magical and incredibly difficult. Moments that changed my life forever and inspired me to create something revolutionary for all mothers.

The Tumultuous Beginnings of Breastfeeding

Imagine yourself in a maternity ward, surrounded by caring faces. You've just given birth, and now you have to learn how to feed this little being who depends entirely on you. Friends and family arrive, full of advice and attention, with inquisitive or embarrassed looks, but you feel overwhelmed. Your baby is crying, you're exhausted, and every attempt at breastfeeding becomes an ordeal.

I also remember those moments when, alone with my baby screaming in my arms, I had to struggle with my clothes to access my breast. One hand to hold my baby, the other to try to discreetly undress, to finally position the baby correctly at the breast while holding the clothing or diaper. Those moments of frustration when I tried to feed my child while preserving my modesty were unbearable. Why did it have to be so complicated?

The Reality of Postpartum

Once I left the maternity ward, I wanted to get back to a normal life. I dreamed of outings to the park, café terraces with my friends, simple and joyful moments. But every outing turned into a pure ordeal. The nursing clothes I owned were uncomfortable, impractical, and downright ugly. I remember those times when I had to hide under an XXL diaper or take refuge on a public bench out of sight to breastfeed my baby. I felt embarrassed, frustrated, and above all, I felt deprived of my freedom.

The Click

The day I finished my first breastfeeding session, I felt an immense sense of relief. Finally, I could put on pretty, comfortable clothes again. This moment of simple happiness was a real turning point for me. Why should I have to choose between breastfeeding my child and feeling beautiful and comfortable in my clothes? Why should I have to compromise, just because I became a mother and chose to feed my child in the most natural way possible?

THE FIRST PRODUCTION: A BET!

All the factories were closing their doors in my face one by one because I had production quantities that were far too low in their eyes and no one wanted to take on a complex project, especially in the middle of COVID.

When I looked for investors it was the same thing, no one wanted to get involved in a problem that only concerns mothers... Clearly no one is interested!

One day, while I was breastfeeding my daughter in a café, a friend with a career in the fashion and luxury industry introduced me to one of her colleagues, Isabella, who is of Portuguese origin and the mother of two girls.

A meeting that will bring my project to life.

Isabella thinks my idea is brilliant and invites me to visit her clothing workshop in Portugal to launch our first production, financed by my small savings!

This is how the LIMKY adventure began, with the daily ambition of helping young mothers and mothers-to-be to reconnect with their femininity and also, to find clothes in which they are comfortable to breastfeed in all femininity.

Thus relieving themselves of an additional mental burden during their postpartum period.
